Headings and titles have always been my nemeses. I tried to fit everything into a snappy title here but they don’t tend to allow for the winding, rambling, meandering series of word that I seem to hold so dearly, in writing or in conversation.
So what is this newsletter? I’m going to continue my writing from Gavisgone here for the time being. It feels like a platform that streamlines what I need and lets me write more, rather than mess about with ‘admin’ - like most creative people, I hate it.
For new readers, I write (mostly) long-form articles about my personal journey to discover and enhance my well-being and mental health, mostly through physical activity and enjoyment of nature, healthy practices and routines, philosophy and reading, and travel - including travel around the places that are closest to home, as I find myself riding out the pandemic in my hometown in the west of Ireland.
I’m also going to be working on a series about my observations on life from years spent living, working and travelling in places around the world, including Ireland, Vietnam, Canada and Japan, collected from essays, stories, diary entries and blog posts that will explore why people travel, and the effects - good and bad - it has on our view of the world. It might even lead to a book.
Travelling the world has led me right back to where I started, but with fresh eyes viewing a familiar world, sometimes as if for the first time. I hope no matter where you are that this newsletter helps you see the world the same way, and brings a little bit of peace to your life in doing so. It mightn’t fix everything, but the first step to improving the world around you is to celebrate it as it is.
